Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It was the top streamed song at that moment within a period of six months. It's a blend of pop and reggaeton that did not just bring new interest to reggaeton, but the popularity of Latin music. In 2015 there were two songs that were predominantly Spanish-language on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 for 2020. the number of songs that made it was 41. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix of Despacito (2017) well-known artists have begun collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake together with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna along with Maluma in Medellin (2019). In 2020, several Reggaeton musicians were expressing their displeasure with the direction of the genre towards mainstream. But, the younger generation Rauw Alejandro was determined to push forward the progression. In his music, he often used elements from electronic dance music, as well as different genres.
