
Jessica Michelle Chastain (born March 24 1977) is an American actor and producer. She is well-known for her roles in films that feature female-centric themes. She has won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine named her one the 100 most influential celebrities globally in 2012. Chastain developed an interest in acting at a young age and made her professional stage debut in 1998 as Shakespeare's Juliet. She was a student at the Juilliard School and was then hired to a talent-holding contract with John Wells, a television producer. She was a recurring guest on several television series, and took on parts in various stage productions. Chastain made her film debut with Jolene (2008) aged 31. She went on to release six films in 2011 including The Tree of Life (2011) and Take Shelter (2011). In her roles as the aspiring socialite and CIA analyst, she received Academy Award nominations in The Help (2011) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The science fiction films Interstellar (2014) & The Martian (2015) were commercially more successful than the horror film It Chapter Two (2019). Chastain received further acclaim for her performance as strong-willed females in the dramas A Very Violent Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016), and Molly's Game (2017), and in the TV miniseries Scenes from a Marriage (2021). She later played Tammy Faye Bakker in the biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) with the Academy Award for Best Actress, and Tammy Wynette in the miniseries George & Tammy (2022). Chastain has founded Freckle Films to promote diversity in film production. She is also an investor in Angel City FC. She has been vocal about gender and racial equality. Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo (fashion executive) is her spouse.
